Last week.........
On Tuesday I visited the Fort Payne Rotary Club where I was very tempted to look for Randy Owen! :-) I was a huge fan of the band Alabama years ago and I can't go to Fort Payne without thinking about them. Anyway, Randy was no where to be found, but I did meet some some very sweet members from that Rotary Club. They were very hospitable and interested in the "goings-on" at Camp ASCCA.
On Thursday I visited the Jasper Pilot Club where I was met for the second time by my old camp friends, Mark and Kelly Benson. They came to a previous presentation of mine just to hear my speech and this time they brought along a friend of theirs, John. In Birmingham a few weeks ago my sister, brother-in-law and cousin came to watch one of my presentations. It's always fun when people come visit just to see me "do my thing!" As always, I had a great time in Jasper. The members of the Jasper Pilot Club were also extremely sweet and several of them mentioned that they would be seeing me very soon!
And soon, they did! Early Sunday morning, I presented in Birmingham for the District Pilot International Conference. The Pilots are incredibly kind and generous people and it's always a pleasure being around them. It was my pleasure to thank them for their generous support of Camp ASCCA, to which I received a standing ovation! Very cool way to end the week!
This week started out busy with a trip to Pell City Kiwanis Club on Monday. Not realizing that Pell City is not that far away from camp, I arrived for the presentation a bit early! :-) That was alright though because I spent the extra time getting to know members of that club a little more than I would normally be able to. I met some very nice people and I look forward to returning to visit the Kiwanis Club there whenever I can.
Tuesday was another early morning with "On The Front Porch" TV show. Kenny Dean has now gotten into the habit of giving Camp ASCCA a full hour on his show once a month. This is truly appreciated because it provides time to say everything that needs to be said. I arrive at 7:00am, go immediately on the air and stay there until the show is over at 8:00. This month I had my friend and coworker, Dana Rickman, go with me. We wanted to get information out about the upcoming Tuberville Tournament benefit for camp on May 13th. Given that Dana has arranged and attended MANY of these tourneys, I thought it would be best for her to go with me! Thanks Dana for helping me out with that! :-)
Wednesday I took the LONG trip over to Jackson! :-) I presented for the Jackson Rotary Club at the request of one of our future summer interns, Zeb Ramey. I also spoke at the Solid Rock Christian School at Donette Mullinx's request. Two speeches in one day and had a ball doing both! Both groups were very kind and showed sincere interest in Camp. I met a long time camper from that area named Matthew Grafton plus got to spend time with the Mullinix family which is always a treat! (i also have pictures on my page from yesterday thanks to Donette!)
Whew!!!!!!! I'm tired just writing all of that out!!!!!!!!!! :-) Just kidding! I'm having a great time doing all of this and wouldn't have it any other way. Also, just so you know, I have continued going to the gym three times a week on top of this schedule!!!!!! And it's working! Clothes are fitting better and I've lost a few pounds and inches! The biggest benefit though is that I feel better! I have more energy, which has certainly helped lately!
More soon............
